Featured in La Provincia: timeless design, natural fibres
Daniele Orlandi was interviewed by La Provincia, Como's daily newspaper, for a feature on timeless, sustainable fashion published on 29 September 2023. Journalist Serena Brivio spoke with Orlandi about his training, his approach to natural fibres, and the Cou(l)ture Migrante social fashion project he collaborated with.
About the interview
The piece traces Orlandi's path into fashion — training at Polimoda in Florence, then at Istituto Secoli, AFOL Moda and Istituto Marangoni, followed by the first edition of the "Out of Fashion" sustainability masterclass at Fondazione Gianfranco Ferré in Milan, before he set up on his own in Como in 2014.
Much of the conversation centres on what Orlandi calls "capi senza stagione" — timeless pieces, practical and feminine, made only from natural materials. One detail stands out: a capsule made from repurposed sailcloth from the training ship Amerigo Vespucci. Orlandi also discusses his sourcing philosophy — working with artisan, family-run, and centuries-old suppliers, favouring natural fibres including non-violent silk. As he put it in the interview:
"La nostra seta non uccide il baco" — our silk does not kill the silkworm.
The interview also covers a rare, historically endangered silk native to the Hatay region (on the border of Turkey and Syria), preserved and still hand-woven locally through this sourcing work, and closes with an update on Cou(l)ture Migrante — the training and integration project for migrants and asylum seekers that Orlandi has coordinated since February 2019, now grown into a self-sustaining atelier.
