The “noble” linen

Linen is a natural material which derives from the stem of the plant Linum usitatissimum. Its processing involves several very labour-intensive stages to transform the plant into fibers and then into yarn that are supported by ancestral knowledges passed down through history and generations.

Despite the manual labour and specialised skills required, it is indeed the earliest known textiles developed by humans (linen thread particles dating from 36,000 B.C were discovered in a Georgian cave in 2009) and its enduring legacy has spanned through centuries and cultures (e.g. its strong connection with ancient Egyptian civilization).

Linen was love at first sight and is still one of our preferred materials due to its rich history and unique qualities that are very interesting both structurally and functionally: it is a noble fiber, with great qualities of strength, hygroscopicity and above all is a hollow fiber, factor which makes it a great thermo-regulator.

In addition to this it is an extraordinary fabric: its natural touch, refinement and lightness are incomparable while the subtle, rich colour shades elevate and intensify even the simplest design. All the fibers used in our collections are sourced from Western Europe and then woven in Italy, Belgium and Northern Ireland.

A beautiful living material deeply associated with elegance that requires passion and understanding to unleash its full potential.

Linen is for the tailor what marble is for the sculptor, a noble material.
